Originally created by John E. Haas, a bartender from Pennsylvania at the turn of the century, The Modern Cocktail was promoted by Charles, S. Mahoney in his 1905 book, The Hoffman House Bartender’s Guide (1905). With equal amounts of Blended Scotch and Sloe Gin, it also has Lemon Juice, Sugar Syrup and a dash each of Absinthe and Orange Bitters.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. 45ml Whiskey, Scotch, blended
  • 1.5 oz. 45ml Sloe Gin
  • 0.5 oz. 15ml Lemon Juice
  • barspoon barspoon Sugar Syrup
  • dash dash Absinthe
  • dash dash Orange Bitters
Display: oz. ml.

Instructions

Shake all ingredients with ice and fine strain into a chilled glass

Garnish

Maraschino Liqueur
