It’s well known that author Normal Mailer is very much a pre-writing drinker. His smokey Martini-style creation, the Berlin Station Chief with Gin and Single Malt Scotch first appeared in his 1991 novel, Harlot’s Ghost.
In an ice-filled mixing glass combine Gin and Single Malt Scotch, then stir to combine. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
