Australian distillery Underground Spirits have collaborated with the Canberra flower and entertainment festival Floriade to release a reimaGINed Gin that is bursting with the colour and flavour of spring.

The Floriade reimaGINed expression is a new-world gin made from sustainably grown wheat grain and water from the pristine wilderness around Canberra. Its colour and essence highlight the hero raspberry and the considered botanicals of juniper, coriander, angelica and native finger lime complete the composition.

“Our creative process here, reimagined, led to the raspberries’ fresh colour and flavour being divided and then composed back together,” said Underground Spirits’ CEO, Claudia Roughley. “Our core gin botanicals anchor the signature quality expected from Underground, and the zing of the finger limes are a pop of citrus for unwinding in the gardens across the capital this spring. It’s our gin, reimaGINed.

“Everyone could use a little reimagining in 2020, it’s really been a year like no other. At Underground Spirits we’ve done a little reimagining of our own to bring you our blossoming pink gin,” Roughley continued.

Events ACT’s acting Executive Branch Manager, Ross Triffitt commented that the festival not only marks flowers blooming to life after their winter hibernation but also celebrates the community spirit and resilience that Canberrans have displayed during recent times.

“Events ACT are excited to have Underground Spirits on board as a Floriade sponsor. We’re proud to support local producers and collaborate to create such an inspired and delicious product which celebrates spring.”

US brand, Old Forester Bourbon, is marking its 150th anniversary with three new limited-edition batches to be released next month

Batch one is bottled at 62.8% ABV and comprised of 46 barrels. On the nose, it has notes of maple syrup, ripe orchard fruits, apricot and plum, with a finish of peppermint and spice.

The second batch (63.2% ABV) comprised of 48 barrels and provided an aroma of cherry cordial and raspberry preserves.

Finally, batch three carries an ABV of 63.4% and is comprised of 43 barrels. It presents dill, orange peel and brown sugar on the nose, followed by a medium-dry finish with tingling green peppercorns, rosemary, grapefruit peel, and anise.

The new whiskey comes in an amber glass bottle, reminiscent of the hand blown glass used by Brown, and will be packaged in a commemorative gift box.

“This special Bourbon has been in the works for some time now, and while it is exciting for our family and colleagues, I hope the larger Old Forester family – the Bourbon lovers and fans – will appreciate it just as much,” said Campbell Brown, Old Forester president and fifth-generation Brown family member.

The Macallan has unveiled its sixth and final Edition Series whisky, which celebrates the Speyside distillery’s natural surroundings.

The new Macallan Edition No.6 completes the annual range, which began in 2015, using the distillery’s land and river as inspiration.

“A day on the River Spey is supremely special,” said Mitchell. “You feel that you are escaping from everything and truly connecting with nature and with our distillery completing this stunning landscape, there is no other place in the world capable of drawing so many wonders together.

“We are proud custodians of our one-and-three-quarter mile stretch of the River Spey and advocate for the sustainability of the wildlife in and around it and so all fishing at The Macallan is catch and release.”

The Macallan’s whisky maker Steven Bremner created the new 48.6% expression by choosing five cask styles that represent stories related to the river and its natural landscape.

The resulting liquid offers aromas of “fresh fruits, nutmeg and toffee merged with oak and flavours of ripe plum, vibrant sweet oranges and cinnamon, developing into spicy fresh fruits and creamy chocolate and toasted oats at the finish”.

WhistlePig’s Seventh Edition of The Boss Hog Breaks New Ground as First and Only Whiskey Finished in Rare Spanish and South American Casks.

The Boss Hog VII: Magellan’s Atlantic, embodies WhistlePig’s continued quest to take American whiskey into uncharted territory. The limited-edition features Straight Rye Whiskey aged for 17 years in American Oak, then finished in rare Spanish Oak, followed by a second finish in South American Teakwood casks.

Inspired by the first recorded circumnavigation of the earth, The Boss Hog VII: Magellan’s Atlantic captures the historic voyage of an intrepid crew who embarked from Spain in 1519 and made landfall in present-day Brazil.

Unlike American white oak, this Spanish oak is high in tannins, knotty and porous. Although the casks are prone to leakage and excess evaporation, the wood delivers intense flavours, with heightened interaction between spirit and oak, creating unparalleled complexity in the whiskey.

On the nose, Magellan’s Atlantic is intensely aromatic, with cinnamon sugar, allspice, and maple. With time, toasted wood notes arise alongside creamy vanilla, roasted almonds, and a touch of ground espresso. Spicy cloves and sweet brandied cherries abound, with baking spices rampant. A closer look reveals subtle hints of charred oak, sage, and dark chocolate. Finishing with everlasting gobs of cinnamon, oak spice, and a gentle warmth demand another sip.
