If you’ve ever tried to mix straight honey into a cocktail you know that sometimes it gets thick and hard and becomes almost impossible to stir into a cold drink. This is where Honey Syrup comes to the rescue.

An easy way to revive overly thick honey and keep it loose and liquidy, creating a Honey Syrup makes it easy to pour, mix and stir into any cocktail you want to make. And there are a host of cocktails that use nature’s sweetener to give the drink a bit of buzz.

So why are we looking specifically at honey this week? Well, this month is National Honey Month, which is aimed at promoting beekeeping, honey awareness, and, of course, all things local honey.

It was started in 1989 by the National Honey Board as a way to not only support the beekeepers but also to bring the benefits and importance of honey production more into the public eye.

From their hives to your homes, honey has quite a long journey, and it all begins with the bee. Whether working in the hive or flying about, foraging for nectar in the fields, honey bees play an integral part in not only honey production but agriculture as a whole.

Honey bees and other pollinators are responsible for pollinating a full third of the world’s food crops. Pollination is vital for the fertilization of plants and growing vegetables and fruit – all production of food sources.

In fact, it’s estimated that one out of every three bites of food worldwide is a result of pollinators’ hard work. Put simply: Without bees, we wouldn’t have food, let alone delicious honey.

So if you want to get involved and do what you can for the bees, go out and buy a bottle of 100% natural honey, preferably ones that are being produced from hives in your area.

Then keep an eye out for two alcohol brands that are trying to do their bit – the first, Aberfeldy has launched a ‘Gardening Giveback Project’ as part of their Barrels & Bees Programme. The second is Barr Hill Gin with their Bees Knees initiative running through from September 18th to 27th.
