Now while you might think that Lime Cordial can only be used for a Gimlet, there are a number of cocktails that can benefit from that extra Lime-y zing. Ideal for summer sipping, Lime Cordial will never go astray with some Gin and Soda Water or even some Ginger Ale to spice things up.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of tasting fresh lime cordial fresh, then making it yourself can add a true zing to your drinks and be a real cocktail game-changer.
Sweet, vibrantly citric and wonderfully delicious, it can of course be enjoyed on its own, but we suggest you save it for cocktails and instantly elevate your drink mixing. You can even add it to light beer for a vibrant alternative to using a lime wedge.
You could of course just go out and buy Roses Lime Juice, but while it has the tartness, it often lacks real flavour (not to mention that it is more artificial than most of us would like).
Making your own Lime Cordial is not only easy, but with the inclusion of Citric Acid, the flavour of the Limes will truly pop.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 tsp citric acid
1/2 tsp tartaric acid
2/3 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice (about 5 large limes)
Rind of 3 limes cut into pieces
Instructions
Stir acids and sugar together.
Separately, bring water to a boil then add the sugar mixture.
Stir constantly until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Turn off the heat and add lime juice and rind and stir well.
Turn the heat back on and allow to simmer for 1-2 minutes.
Remove from heat, cover and allow to cool.
Place the mix into a well-sealed container and refrigerate overnight.
Strain the lime rinds and pour into an empty, clean bottle with tight-fitting lid.
Place back in the refrigerator and allow to sit for another day before using.
Keep refrigerated.
